Ryde offers a fantastic variety of things to do to keep the whole family entertained. Home to a variety of sea life, the beach offers the essential rock pooling and dog lovers will be pleased to hear that the beaches are pet-friendly. The Esplanade has many attractions, including a children’s theme park, a boating lake and a bowling alley with laser tag. Union Street in the centre of the town is ideal for browsing the boutiques and shops or sampling the cafes and independent restaurants.

Ryde’s history includes the Victorian Fort at Puckpool Park and the impressive Appley Tower; both are worth a visit to spend time discovering their past.

A trip to the award-winning Isle of Wight Steam Railway is where you can take a leisurely ride across the island on a steam locomotive – one for the rail enthusiasts.

Inland from Ryde is Wootton. Gems to explore include the woodland trails and Firestore Copse, a conservation area to see some of the Island’s wildlife: the elusive red squirrel, herons and kingfishers. A visit to Quarr Abbey offers an alternative view of modern-day life; this scenic monastery and Designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is home to French Benedictine monks and includes an art gallery, café, farm and shop. Quarr Abbey is steeped in history and intrigue and a tour is highly recommended.
